A modern 'architectural sensation': The Jubilee Line Extension stations and their future

Join SAVE Britain's Heritage for a special event on the 25th October 2017 celebrating the design and architecture of the Jubilee Line Extension stations.

Marcus Binney, Executive President of SAVE, and Ken Powell, author of The Jubilee Line Extension, will open the evening with a talk showcasing the adventurous architecture and pioneering engineering of these stations opened just 18 years ago.

This will be followed by an open discussion on the importance of the award winning buildings, chaired by Jonathan Glancey, architectural critic and writer. There will be contributions from those involved in the design of these stations, notably the architects including Michael and Patty Hopkins, John McAslan, Ian Ritchie and Will Alsop.

Described as "the biggest architectural sensation of their kind since the Moscow Underground'' when they opened in 1999, this special event will celebrate the 11 Jubilee Line stations at a time when they are coming under threat from new development. Transport for London's recently publicised plans for the partial demolition and redevelopment of Southwark  has triggered a renewed interest in the history and architecture of all of these modern stations.
