aLL Design were approached by Quintain to develop ideas for their multi-storey car park façade. Designed initially by Leslie Jones Architects, the 732-space car park serves visitors to Wembley Stadium and the London Designer Outlet shopping mall. The building is in a prominent position, adjacent to Wembley Stadium, prompting the local authority’s specification of a building that conceals its purpose whilst contributing to the aesthetic character of the Wembley master plan.

aLL’s response is a cladding system - formed using aluminium fins in red, black, white and chrome which, when placed vertically and seemingly at random, form a dynamic façade that changes as you traverse the building and differs from daytime to night. The panels were designed to be cut from a standard sheet of recycled aluminium with minimal waste during construction.

The fins function to limit views into the car park whilst allowing sunlight in and views out.

This incorporates a fixing system, enabling the angle of each fin to be adjusted over time.
