Sturton Street

Have you ever wanted to live in a tree-house? Sturton Street in Cambridge is a building on stilts which sits within a dense canopy of trees comprising three storeys of high quality student rooms with a double storey of duplex apartments above. The building sits above an existing Youth Centre which is currently being transformed into a state of the art Dance School. Included in aLL Design’s scope is the improvement of the existing, neglected, Sturton Street Recreation Ground to create a space for all of the community to enjoy.
The building will be extremely green, composed of volumetric pods manufactured off-site using cross laminated timber (CLT) and supported by timber thinnings (tree trunks). Built to Passivhaus standard, the building will consume very little energy in use. The east facade is open glass louvres clad in sticks which will filter light through to the circulation corridor behind.
